I bought my pistol brand new, in early June, 2010. It fits the bill
perfectly as an off-duty, summer-carry gun.If you put it in a sleeve
holster, and carry it in cargo-pants shorts, its great.I found the
single action,]3lbs.[,to be very accurate at 50 feet, which I feel, for me personally, to be the max realistic shot.I used 125 gr.
semi-jacketed hollow points,+P.The double-action,]12lbs.[,was a bit
less accurate, but would be fine for 21 ft.I have owned smiths off and on,for 25 yrs. This is one of the best ever in quality for the price. Thanx.

Model 637

For political reasons, I recently obtained an Idaho Concealed Carry permit. This is the pistol I chose for daily carry. I bought one used, and it worked fine, but there was a rattle because the cylinder release was poorly fitted and the timing was slightly off. That''s why I give it four stars instead of five. I took it to a very competent gunsmith, he worked his magic and now it runs slicker than a Swiss watch. He told me It says +P on there, but don''t take it to the range and put a bunch of +P through it. That aluminum frame can only take so much. Hot ammo is ok for carrying but not for target practice. The gunsmith also said the timing and fitting issues were Very rare for a Smith. All in all, I would highly recommend the model 637. If you are comfortable with the limited energy of the .38 cartridge, it is a light and concealable firearm that won''t get left home because of bulk or weight.
